Gender inequalities are still deep-rooted in society. All over the world, women suffer from lack of access to decent work, they are deprived from their rights to education and health care, while experiencing extensive violence and discrimination. Their voices are under-represented in political and economic decision-making processes. Cooperatives are key institutions to empower women and achieve gender equality. They drive economic democracy allowing women to raise their voices, create their own work opportunities and overcome economic exclusion. Their economic emancipation contributes to improve livelihoods and gender dynamics at all levels.
