Cooperatives can work as bridging institutions in reconciliation processes. They have a strong capacity to build mutual understanding and contribute to conflict eradication and promotion of peace while building cohesive communities. They are spaces where people from different walks of life come together to address common needs. This builds trust and makes it harder to fall prey to fake news and conspiracy theories which are stoking division and are causing violence all over the world. This is why cooperatives are a well-placed partner in any strategy towards conflict prevention, reconciliation and peace building.
